jonny's big night out

Opening next week
I have a portrait of Jonny in this exhibition, come on down. This guy was completed in watercolour pencils on cradled wood veneer board.

It was the last day of the Thirty day project yesterday, and my last post was a drawing of one of my favourite pups, my sweet Jessie.
This drawing was from Day 19. It is of my friend Nell Paulien. It was taken on a sunny day after we had finished our drawing lesson together. She is such a quick learner, you should see her amazing portraits!
All of the pieces from Thirty Day Project can be seen in the galleries.
The challenge was to create something every day for 30 days.
I found it difficult to crank out something every day (and sometimes they were complete duds), but it has been an amazing kick in the pants for me, and I am grateful for taking part.
It was organized by the delightful Keith and Aya Ikeda-Barry.

Davids wish

whew! that was a busy weekend at the Maritime Festival.
The wish boat installation ended up looking fantastic with the help of all the little ones making, and hanging their ships to make a huge fleet !
take a look at the sweet ships the kids were making from wood veneer, origami paper and their own wishes!
This was a boat made by a little boy named David. He wrote a wish on his boat.
So sweet!

Bee puppets at midsummer's fete were a success !
It was super busy, lovely afternoon with many a bee scooting through the air.
The bees were almost completely made from natural materials. Dyed black leather for the bodies, handmade paper with seeds for wings (that you can plant in the dirt and grow flowers), wired hemp, and coloured wire for the puppet stick.
The kids did a fabulous job, and the bees looked very sweet.

Armadillo alert !

Hey! I have a new sculpture section!
This section will display all the goodies I've made for urban source over the last eight years.
All of the pieces are listed as sold, because they permanently live in the store!
Urban Source is a fantastic recyclable art supply store in Vancouver.
If you feel like seeing these little noodles in person, almost all of them are hanging around in the store. (3126 Main Street, Vancouver)
These pieces were made from the materials that came through the door of the store.
They were found objects, recycled,
re purposed as well as brand new.

I've started photographing the landscapes I worked on last summer.
They're simple compositions, muted colors based around the horizon line. The paintings are based on photographs I've taken at home while in Alberta, and a trip down the Oregon coast.
